Maddin M. Nelson

Maddin M. Nelson brings her wide-ranging experience representing clients  to provide expertise in an array of litigation and transactional matters. Her varied background allows her to assess and manage potential areas of exposure while providing practical advice to her clients so they can navigate a legal landscape. She concentrates her practice on business law, employment, estate planning, probate, and commercial litigation.

Nelson, a Nashville native, handles a broad area of commercial practice, and is licensed in both Colorado and Tennessee. She graduated from Washington and Lee University in 2011 and earned her law degree from The University of Tennessee College of Law in 2016.

While in law school, Nelson completed the Tennessee Supreme Court’s mediator training, and spent time on Fort Campbell volunteering with Judge Advocate General Corps to draft wills for active-duty soldiers. She was a member of Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law and served as the President and Philanthropy Chair of Law Women. She received a National Association of Women Lawyers Award as well as CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Contract Drafting, Law and Literature, and for her work in the Mediation Clinic. She also received Bronze-Level Recognition for her Pro Bono Service during her time in law school.

After law school, Nelson moved to Denver, Colorado where she started her legal career. Beginning in the realm of family law, she then followed her interests and gained experience prosecuting and defending cases involving securities fraud, oil and gas ventures, trade secrets, and contract disputes. Thereafter, Nelson shifted her focus into the insurance arena, where she represented clients in various state and federal court matters and conducted large-scale, multi-party, pre-litigation investigations. Most recently, she handled a general commercial litigation practice with a focus in personal injury, insurance defense, and bad faith actions and assisted in briefing to the Colorado Supreme Court on a certified question of law pertaining to the interplay of the workers compensation act and uninsured/underinsured motorist claims. In recognition of her work, Nelson was selected by her peers for inclusion in the 2025 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America in the field of personal injury litigation – defendants.

Nelson returned to Nashville and joined Dodson Parker Behm and Capparella in 2024. She continues to expand the scope of her knowledge and brings with her a broad commercial litigation background for the benefit of her clients.

While living in Denver, Nelson always made sure to support her home team and proudly wore her Predators t-shirt whenever they were in town. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering for the Land Trust of Tennessee, hiking or camping with her fiancé, fishing, and playing tennis.
